Week 4- Build With Waterline Church
This was another amazing week! I think I have said this every week so far, but I was surrounded by a fantastic group of people this week! My team this week was only made up of 12 people which I was a little nervous about at first. There is so much to do in a day, and an average team has about 18-20 people. With average-sized groups, every person almost always has a job to do and we need every person to contribute. This group pulled through though and worked so hard every day. Regardless, the build went smoothly and was an enjoyable process because this team was so positive throughout each day. A normal build takes 3 days, but this team decided to spread the build out over four days and end each day a little early. This was really nice because the build was at a comfortable pace and because we ended early, we got to do some fun things during the afternoon hours. Our group went to the cold springs twice, which is a little creek that is about 55 to 60 degrees and feels amazing after a hot work day. We also went out for ice cream a couple times and went to a Mexican grocery store and flea market. I really enjoyed exploring more of Acuna with this team. I also won a really intense game of Uno. We added some of our own rules and a single game game took about an hour and a half. This was a really great week full of hard work for the Lord and fun relaxing activities.
Many of the people in this group also did not know each other very well, so the beginning of the week was very quiet. However, by mid-week, many of the people had started to create stronger relations with each other. By the end of the week, the group had a lot of deep, personal, and raw conversations. I believe that many of the team members grew in their faith and relationship with God This week. Also, by having some deeper connections with each other, each person now has more community at their church to love and be loved by. I am very happy that this mission trip was able to facilitate a positive environment for stronger relationships to be formed.
I know that I talk a lot about the people I am around each week and that is because my job this summer is to show God's love to the families we build for and to the teams that come down to build. My whole summer revolves around people and the genuine relations I can create with people in just one week. I have two verses that I think relate to this week.
John 15:12 "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you".
Matthew 28:18-20 "Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age'".
I know that I am only 1/3 of the way through my internship, but this summer has already confirmed my desire to go into missionary work. This experience is nothing like anything I have ever done before. I have gotten so much fulfillment and joy from being able to serve families and teams. I get to speak the gospel to families that haven't heard it before and show God's love to people who may not have felt it until before. This is both an honor and a privilege. For the teams that come down, by spending a week with them, I get to listen to their stories, hopes, and worries. While creating relationships with these people, I get to speak about how God has worked in my life and also offer up encouragement.
Thank you all for your support and encouragement. I could not be doing what I am not if it were not for you! If you have any prayer requests, I would love to hear them and pray for you this week. My contact info is below.
