Week one- Intern Training

This week was my first of two weeks of training. We worked from 7am to 9pm to build this house Monday through Thursday. Most builds do not take this long, but because we were training, the building process was slowed down so all the interns could in detail learn every step of building the house. It was a very strenuous and taxing week, but on Friday when we dedicated the house to the family, it made every second of work and every drop of sweat worth it. This family was not only given a place to live in but they were also given the gospel. A pastor in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico has worked with and will continue to help grow this family's knowledge and faith in God even after they are given the house. That is Casas's mission- to not only take the stress of needing a house off of a family's hands but to also give them a gift that will last an eternity.

This week I also became very close with all the other interns. There are ten of us- seven men and three women. The men will continue to build in Juárez, and the two other women and I will start building in Acuna at the end of training. All of the interns here have been very kind and it has been easy to make friends. All of us are here to work with God and for God, but the story of how we got here is unique to each individual and it has been fun to get to know everyone and their story. I am going to be surrounded by some amazing and uplifting people this summer, and I cannot wait to do God's work in Mexico alongside these people.
